A VSD with a technology known as Reduced Harmonics Technology (RHT) was considered and benchmarked against existing solutions in industry in terms of cost and e ectiveness.

In literature, power quality associated with variable speed drive, or adjustable speed drives (ASDs) means mainly voltage dips, supply interruptions and harmonic distortion.

This area is dedicated to factories and businesses that require extremely high quality of power supply. For this reason it is called the “Power Quality Park”. adjustable speed drive technology, variable speed systems are becoming increasingly common in industrial and commercial applications.

Power Quality (PQ) related issues are of most concern now days. The widespread use of electronic equipment, such as information technology equipment, power electronics such as adjustable speed drives (ASD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), energy-efficient lighting etc led to a complete change of electric loads nature.

While all variable frequency drives (VFDs) control the speed of an AC induction motor by varying the motor's supplied voltage and frequency of power, they all do not use the same designs in doing so. There are three major VFD designs commonly used today: pulse width modulation (PWM), current source inverter (CSI), and voltage source inverter (VSI).

It uses the perspectives of both power suppliers and electricity users, with contributions from experts in all aspects of PQ supplying a vital balance of scientific and practical information on the following: frequency variations; the characteristics of voltage, including dips, fluctuations and flicker; the continuity and reliability of electricity supply, its structure, appliances and equipment; the relationship of PQ with power systems, distributed generation, and the electricity market.

There are two main classes of electric power quality disturbances: the steady-state disturbance that lasts for a long period of time (and is often periodic) and the transient. The latter generally exists for a few milliseconds, and then decays to zero.
